Foire aux Vins d'Alsace 2026
Colmar's legendary 11-day wine fair, one of the largest in France. Hundreds of Alsatian producers pour Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Gris alongside concerts and food stalls.
The Foire aux Vins d'Alsace in Colmar is one of France's largest and longest-running wine fairs, held every year in late July and early August. For 11 days, the Parc des Expositions on the southern edge of Colmar fills with hundreds of Alsatian wine producers, live music stages, food pavilions, and tens of thousands of visitors. It is equal parts wine trade event, music festival, and regional food fair.
What Makes It Special
Alsace produces some of France's most distinctive and undervalued white wines: bone-dry Rieslings, aromatic Gewurztraminers, rich Pinot Gris, and elegant Cremant d'Alsace sparkling wines. The Foire is the single best opportunity to taste across the entire region's production in one place. Over 300 producers pour wines ranging from entry-level to Grand Cru, and the atmosphere is relaxed and accessible — this is not a stuffy trade event.
Admission is remarkably affordable, typically EUR 5-15 depending on the day and time. A tasting glass is included in the ticket price. Individual pours at producer stands are free or cost a nominal amount. It is entirely possible to taste 30 or 40 wines in an afternoon for very little money.
The Music Programme
The Foire doubles as one of northeastern France's biggest music festivals. The main stage has hosted major French and international acts over the years. Concerts run most evenings, and the programme ranges from pop and rock to jazz and chanson. The music draws a younger crowd than you might expect at a wine fair, and the evening atmosphere — wine glass in hand, music in the background, warm summer night — is genuinely festive.
Food and Local Specialities
Alsatian cuisine is represented in force. Expect tarte flambee (flammekueche) cooked in wood-fired ovens, choucroute garnie, munster cheese, bretzels, and kougelhopf. The food pavilions are as much a draw as the wine stands. Pair a glass of Grand Cru Riesling with a plate of tarte flambee and you will understand why Alsace considers itself France's best-kept gastronomic secret.
Getting There
Colmar is on the main Strasbourg-Basel railway line, with frequent TGV connections from Paris (2 hours 40 minutes via Strasbourg). Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg Airport is 45 minutes south and serves budget airlines from across Europe. The fairground is accessible by shuttle bus from Colmar's city centre and train station during the event.
Where to Stay
Colmar's old town — with its half-timbered houses, canals, and cobblestone streets — is one of the most photogenic small cities in France. Hotels in the Petite Venise quarter and around Place de l'Ancienne Douane are the most charming but book up fast during Foire week. The surrounding wine villages of Eguisheim, Riquewihr, and Kaysersberg (all within 15 minutes by car) offer quieter guesthouse accommodation and are worth visiting in their own right.
Insider Tips
Go on a weekday afternoon for the best tasting experience. The weekends, especially Saturday evenings, draw the biggest crowds and the atmosphere shifts from wine tasting to music festival. The Grand Cru producers are clustered in a specific section of the fair — head there first while your palate is fresh.
The Alsace Wine Route, running 170 kilometres from Marlenheim to Thann, is at its most beautiful in late July and August. Build a few days of driving or cycling the Route des Vins around your Foire visit for one of France's best summer wine trips.
