Vendimia de Mendoza 2026
Argentina's national grape harvest festival and one of the largest wine events in the world. Over 40,000 spectators watch the carnival parade, vendimia queen coronation, and fireworks.
Vendimia is Argentina's national grape harvest festival and one of the largest wine events in the world. Held every year in early March at the close of the Southern Hemisphere harvest season, it transforms Mendoza into a week-long celebration of wine, culture, and gaucho tradition. The scale is extraordinary — over 40,000 spectators attend the main events, and the festival has been running since 1936.
The Week's Events
Vendimia builds across the week. Early events include the Blessing of the Fruits ceremony, where the first grapes of the vintage are blessed at churches across Mendoza province. The Via Blanca parade on Friday night sees illuminated floats representing each of Mendoza's 18 departments wind through the city centre, accompanied by folk dancers and gaucho horsemen.
Saturday night is the climax: the Acto Central at the Frank Romero Day amphitheatre in the Cerro de la Gloria park. This open-air spectacle combines live music, dance, pyrotechnics, and the crowning of the Reina Nacional de la Vendimia — the national harvest queen, selected from candidates representing each department. The production values rival a Super Bowl halftime show, set against the backdrop of the Andes at sunset.
Wine Tasting During Vendimia
Beyond the official programme, Mendoza's bodegas run special open-door events during Vendimia week. Many estates in Lujan de Cuyo and the Uco Valley offer harvest-themed lunches, barrel tastings of the just-picked vintage, and asado barbecues among the vines. These bodega events are often the highlight for wine-focused visitors — they offer intimacy and access that the main festival's spectacle cannot match.
Getting There and Around
Mendoza's Gobernador Francisco Gabrielli International Airport receives direct flights from Buenos Aires (2 hours), Santiago de Chile (1 hour), and seasonal international connections. The city is compact and walkable, but a rental car or driver is essential for visiting wineries in Lujan de Cuyo (30 minutes south) and the Uco Valley (90 minutes south).
Where to Stay
Downtown Mendoza has the widest hotel range and the most convenient access to Vendimia's street events. The Park Hyatt Mendoza on Plaza Independencia is the prestige choice. Budget travellers should look at Airbnbs in the Quinta Seccion neighbourhood. For a vineyard experience, Cavas Wine Lodge and The Vines Resort in the Uco Valley offer luxury among the vines but require transport to the city events.
Insider Tips
The Acto Central tickets for the amphitheatre sell out weeks in advance through the Vendimia official website. Standing-room hillside spots are free and offer excellent views of the fireworks but arrive at least two hours early. March in Mendoza is warm (28-32 degrees) and dry — bring sunscreen and a hat for daytime bodega visits. The asado at any neighbourhood parrilla during Vendimia week is as good as anything you will eat at a formal dinner.
