Essência do Vinho — a 3-day weekend in Douro Valley

21–24 February 2026. Porto, Portugal. 90 min from the airport.

The weekend, day by day

  1. Day 1

    Arrive in Porto

Land at Porto Airport (OPO), settle in and walk the old town in the afternoon. Light dinner near your accommodation — save your appetite for the festival day.

  2. Day 2

    Essência do Vinho

Festival day — arrive early to avoid the lunchtime crowd. Insider tip: Arrive during the first two hours of opening day to access winemakers before they're exhausted—this is where you'll have meaningful conversations with Douro, Dão, and Bairrada producers about allocation releases. Book the sommelier-led masterclasses in advance; they sell out and offer insider access to limited-production wines.

  3. Day 3

Wine country day in Douro Valley

Use the third day for a single winery visit (booked ahead) and a long lunch at one of the regional addresses below before heading home.

Where to stay

Three angles for the festival window. Festival hotels book out 6+ months in advance — apartments are the contingency when the main shortlist is sold out.
