Best Deidesheim Wineries to Visit in 2026 — 6 Verified Picks

Deidesheim sits on the Deutsche Weinstraße in the Pfalz, about half a kilometre east of the Haardt hills and surrounded by vineyards, the Palatinate Forest and medieval castles. Bassermann-Jordan's own site dates the town to about the 9th century, records winegrowing here in writing since the year 770, and says the mild climate earns the area the nickname "the Tuscany of Germany." It is also where a famous family estate split: Reichsrat von Buhl's history page explains that the Jordan estate was divided into three smaller wineries, Bassermann-Jordan, Reichsrat von Buhl and Dr. Deinhard, the last of which is today Weingut von Winning. All three still work in Deidesheim, alongside Josef Biffar. The two other picks are close neighbours: Georg Mosbacher in Forst and Bürklin-Wolf in Wachenheim, both of which farm top sites around Deidesheim.

Frequently asked

Do Deidesheim wineries need reservations for tastings?

It varies by estate. Reichsrat von Buhl says tastings in its vinothek are possible during opening hours, with no advance notice for groups of up to five and a short appointment requested for six to ten. Weingut von Winning says no registration is needed to taste wines in its vinothek, while guided cellar tours and vineyard walks are booked ahead. Bassermann-Jordan asks groups of six or more to register, and Georg Mosbacher asks groups of four or more to register. Bürklin-Wolf asks for a reservation for tastings, and Josef Biffar's vinothek sells wine by appointment.

How much does a tasting cost?

Only two of the six estates publish a price. Reichsrat von Buhl's vinothek tasting of up to eight wines is free if you buy something, otherwise the site states 15 EUR per person; its cellar tastings for groups from ten people are listed at 25 EUR and 35 EUR per person depending on format. Weingut von Winning lists an open Saturday cellar tour with six wines at 25 EUR per person, plus private tours at set prices. The other estates do not publish tasting prices on their sites, so ask when you book.

What do the VDP labels and Grosse Gewächse mean?

The VDP is the association of German Prädikat wine estates. Georg Mosbacher's site says it has been a member since 1993, and Bassermann-Jordan and Reichsrat von Buhl organise their ranges under the VDP site-quality labels: Gutswein, Ortswein, Erste Lage and Grosse Lage, the top level. Reichsrat von Buhl's site lists Erste Lage sites such as Herrgottsacker and Paradiesgarten and Grosse Lage sites such as Kirchenstück, Pechstein, Jesuitengarten and Kieselberg. Weingut von Winning takes advance reservations for its Grosse Gewächse, the top dry wines.

Can I combine a tasting with a meal?

At two of them, yes. Weingut von Winning runs the Leopold restaurant on the same site and offers a Wine and Lunch package that pairs an open cellar tour with a three-course menu with wine. Josef Biffar runs the Japanese restaurant fumi at the estate, where winemaker Fumiko Tokuoka presents her wines and sparkling wines alongside the food.

Do I need a car to visit?

Bassermann-Jordan, Reichsrat von Buhl, von Winning and Josef Biffar are all in Deidesheim itself, so you can combine several without driving between towns. Georg Mosbacher (Forst) and Bürklin-Wolf (Wachenheim) are in neighbouring villages on the same wine route, which is easier by car, taxi or bike. We have not checked public transport timetables.
