Douro Valley wine tours: pick the right kind, then book it
A Douro wine tour is a day of estate visits, tastings and river views. Pick the kind that fits how you like to travel, see what a day involves, and book a live tour or arrange your own.

Which kind of tour suits you
Small group tour
Suits: First visit, or you would rather not drive: the estates and the lunch are arranged for you and you share the day with other guests.
Check: The stops and timings are set by the operator. Check the group size and the pickup point on the booking page.
Private tour
Suits: Couples, families and anyone who wants their own pace, a particular estate or a longer lunch.
Check: You are paying for the vehicle and guide. Compare the length and what is included with a shared tour before you choose.
Train plus a booked visit
Suits: You like trains and do not mind a slower day: ride the Douro line, then visit one estate properly.
Check: Estates set their own rules: Quinta do Crasto says every visit needs a prior appointment, so book before you travel.
Book a Douro Valley wine tour
Live tours that start in the valley itself (Régua, Pinhão, Lamego), best rated first. Each shows its own length.

What a day in the Douro looks like
- An estate visit. Quinta do Crasto, for example, lists a guided tour and tasting of 90 minutes.
- A long lunch. The same estate lists a harmonised visit and lunch of about 3 hours.
- The river. Crasto points visitors to boats that start from Pinhão or Folgosa and run up the Douro towards the estate.
- Booking ahead. Quinta do Crasto says all visits are subject to prior appointment.

Getting to the Douro without a car
- The Douro railway line runs from Porto to Pocinho, more than 170 kilometres, and the train reaches both Régua and Pinhão.
- Comboios de Portugal describes Pinhão station as one of the most beautiful railway stations in Portugal.
- For Quinta do Crasto, which sits on the right bank between Régua and Pinhão, the estate says to get off at Ferrão station.
- Comboios de Portugal also runs the Douro Historical Train as a tourist service.
- Porto or the valley as your base: the MiraDouro train runs daily in both directions from Porto São Bento to Régua, Pinhão and Pocinho, so a Porto stay works for the train. To sleep among the vines, Quinta da Pacheca and Quinta do Tedo both list accommodation.

When to go
- Late summer is harvest time. Quinta Nova runs its wine harvest activity once a year between August and September, with a tasting and a regional harvest lunch. Each estate sets its own dates, so ask before you book.

- Quinta do Crasto: Lists guided tastings and lunch visits; every visit is by prior appointment.
- Quinta Nova: Runs a yearly harvest activity with tasting and lunch.
- Quinta da Pacheca: Lists vineyard tours, tastings and Douro river cruises, and has a hotel on the estate.
- Quinta do Vallado: Lists wine tasting and a hotel on its own site.
- Quinta do Tedo: In the heart of the Douro valley; lists tours and tastings and accommodation.
